Piano Songs for Beginners
on: May 05, 2013, 09:12:01 PM
Syooooo I've had this keyboard since Christmas  and I've been teaching myself to play tunes I know by ear, but I want to be able to play pieces like this eventually:

- and I have not been practicing for an hour a day XD I'm hoping to learn lots of skills over the summer and have a better feel of basic technique and continue practicing and getting better.

So could you please suggest songs for me to learn as a beginner?

Lastly, is this a good song for a beginner?:

are you thinking of something classical, jazzy, or what?
Debussy Pour le Piano
Chopin Etude 10/5, 10/9
Beethoven Sonata 2/2, 10/3
Bach P&F no. 7 WTC 1
Ligeti Musica Ricercata 10

Anything really, just simple pieces beginners can play with practice.

"My Way" - popular everywhere.

"Ballade Pour Adeline" - sounds much more difficult than it is.

Unless you are speaking of an easy piano version, I think this would be a stretch for a self taught student of six months. Not saying it couldn't be done or even that it shouldn't be done and maybe even be enjoyable . It's wise to indicate that there are Rhythm challenges, octave changes etc.  I say maybe a bit much for a 6 month student.. At Sheetmusicplus it's considered level 6, fwiw. While it has a pretty passive melody line running through it, it also is not without it's challenges.

I indicated to a student here in the forums one time, for instance, that some of David Nevue's easy pieces ( he categorizes them at his site) would be nice to learn and not difficult. Got a reply that I must be kidding, that he had tried Solitude which is in that category of easy to learn and he found it too much. In fact I think he stated impossible at his level. Some of these folks aren't ready to move around the keyboard yet, or work with syncopation, as routine as that may seem to someone more advanced. They, in some cases also have no teacher to work with them through the trouble spots.

Just a heads up in case someone thought it might be a very easy piece to learn. There are easy versions though, I'm speaking of original writings of the Ballade and more advanced  intermediate arrangements only.
Depressing the pedal on an out of tune acoustic piano and playing does not result in tonal color control or add interest, it's called obnoxious.
