Schubert D946 'crossed out C section' !
on: May 19, 2013, 05:52:08 PM
I was wondering if anyone might be able to point me in the right direction for tracking down a particular edition of sheet music...Also, this is my first post, so apologies if it is in the wrong place and such !

I learned the D946 'Klavierstucke' years ago whilst still in school, and have recently come back to them. Klavierstucke number 1 in E flat minor as you may know originally had another trio (in A flat I think) or a 'C section' I suppose you could say, that Schubert erased...the edition I learned the piece from many years ago also did not include this section, and I am aware quite a few editions omit it...what I am looking for is an edition which DOES include it, so I may incorporate it into the piece - does anyone here know of an edition which contains this missing section, or a particular publisher who prints the piece with it intact that they could direct me to ?

I would be extremely pleased if I could find the music (I really think those extra few bars are lovely) and thanks for reading my post,

BW

Andy

Henle has the C section.  This is the edition I used to learn the piece.

Bärenreiter may also have the C section, but it may be in an appendix if memory recalls.

Personally I've played it various ways both with C section included and omitted, depending if there were time constraints to the performance.  I've recorded it with all repeats and sections included.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

Quantum;

Thanks very much indeed for your help, I've been searching all over for a copy that includes those extra few bars; as you say, the piece still sounds great as it is with the C section omitted, which is the way I've played it for years, but I do find that extra A-flat trio quite charming, and wanted the option to include it should I wish to ! I have just bought a copy of the Henle edition, so thanks again for pointing me in the right direction !
