Getting industry reviews of a recorded CD
on: June 02, 2013, 06:33:26 PM
As some of you may have read earlier this year, I recently completed a long-standing recording project of mine.

Does anyone have any ideas regarding good places/people (both online and within the publishing world: journals or individual people) to whom I could send review copies? I have already sent a few out and think I may get one review; I'm not optimistic regarding the other places as they haven't replied, though I've no idea what the standard protocol is. I have had, to my surprise, a tolerable number of album sales - indeed some forum members have been very kind in their comments - but it would be gratifying to have the cd recognized in some "official" way. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I don't know in which country you live, but in the US you might send a copy of your CD to Fanfare, P.O. Box 17, Tenafly New Jersey (they also will review CDs from other countries, I was just stressing that it's a US-based publication)

If you're not familiar with it, take a look at www.fanfaremag.com------it's an interesting site, but the magazine is more impressive "in person." It's more like a book in format and sometimes exceeds 5oo pages in length.

The publisher/editor's name is Joel Flegler. I can't guarantee how he will react, but Fanfare is a well-respected publication and a review there might help your career. I write for the magazine, preferring to work on interviews rather than reviews, but there are many fine and perceptive writers on the staff. Best of luck.

P.S. I heard your playing, care of Piano Street, and I was impressed.

Thanks! I'm based in the UK, but I'll definitely try sending them a copy. It's encouraging to see the vast number of reviews per issue: that must increase the likelihood of getting a review.
