How Can I Practice More..?
on: June 05, 2013, 08:17:08 PM
Hey guys, so I've been following this forum for a while but just signed up so this may be an overused topic, anyways I'm not here for tips on practicing more efficiently with less time and stuff. I have incredible amount of free time which would allow me to practice up to 10 hours.. well if I could! I get distracted, mentally tired, sometimes hard to focus.. Even when I have a break it's hard for me to get back to practicing.,,,,I'm happy with the way I practise, I'm just here for tips on practicing more..It's not that I'm unhappy with the amount I do it, it just would be awesome if I could do more.. What do guys think I should try?
 thanks!

One tactic that sometimes helps is to write out a schedule.

It can be as simple as "practice from 3 - 4 PM" or it can spell out in detail "scales from 3:00 t 3:15, lesson piece 1 from 3:45 to 4:05, improv from 5:30 to 5:50," etc.

But it should be written, with specific times, and posted somewhere you can see it.

I log all my practices with what I did, how long, and sometimes how it went, but that may be overkill for you.

Here is a link that describes THE WAY, imho, to practice.

We all can learn more pieces faster this way. You can prove it to yourself in 7 days.

Good advice! From what I have learned through own experience, the blog post writer is right.

With me the problem is getting out of the procrastination zone. Also, it's sometimes hard to practise everyday because it does geting tiring if you play the same piece over and over to get it right.

But today I thought about my dream with the piano and from that I drew motivation and now can cope with the longer time playing.

Yes we all can suffer from that now and then ! Early on for me though, no way. I wanted to learn well fast but certain pieces would bog me out. These days I'm going at it easier.

That was a good mind set you used !
Depressing the pedal on an out of tune acoustic piano and playing does not result in tonal color control or add interest, it's called obnoxious.

Brilliant!  I'm going to try this on the piece that's starting to make me crazy (though I love it!)!
Thanks!
