Raindrop Prelude
on: June 11, 2013, 08:36:33 PM
Yeah I decided to record it because I like it, and it's one of those pieces with a nice settled flow that doesn't suffer too much from my jitters. I get jittery if there's a mic on. xD
Anyway a couple of little slips here and there and some rhythmic weirdness at times, but yeah that's what I produced on the day.
Hope you enjoy and please tell me what you like/dislike, always fun to hear opinions.

Try and make the accompaniment softer with more emphasis on bringing out the melodic line, and make your harmonic changes less abrupt.

I think you captured the atmosphere of this piece very well and you have a good feeling for it, and you have some interesting ideas, for instance the slightly slower tempo in the middle part. I actually like that, because it gives even more weight to this contrasting tragic part.
I don't think Chopin can ever be reduced to a mere "melody vs. accompaniment" scheme, and I think that you are aware of this. Chopin's "accompaniments" are often sneakily more evoking and haunting than the melody...

I love this version! It has an "uncombed", slightly rough feeling that I find most appealing - vivid, so to speak. Many pianists play Chopin just too smoothly and perfectly, just because they can, but this one feels personal all the way.
Very good.
