finding key names on 76 key piaggero.
on: June 16, 2013, 07:32:55 AM
i just got a piano and i am currently reading a book on how to learn it, and this book tells me how to find the names of each of the keys on the piano. problem is  this is based off a standard piano with more keys and the chart doesnt match up with the information. for example it says every A key, is between the top 2 black keys out of a 3 key group.. is this information still correct with this different piano? if not, how can i find the names of the keys on this piano

Yes, the arrangement of the keys stays the same with different sized keyboards. Maybe it's better not to start figuring this out from the lowest keys. Traditionally when you start learning the notes you find the "middle C" which should be in the middle of the keyboard. C is always the note just below (to the left) the group of two black keys. Then you go up from that and down from that. You can count how many octaves you have on your keyboard. A new octave starts from every new C note on the keyboard. When you begin learning to play from sheet music you will mostly play the two octaves around the middle C, gradually expanding you range to higher and lower keys.

Hi piova1,

There are 7 note names on any keyboard.

They are abcDefg.

Did you notice the D above is CAPITALIZED?

That note D is always between the group of two black keys.

The 3 white keys immediately to the right of D are e,f and g.

The 3 white keys immediately to the left of D are in reverse alphabetically order which is c,b and a.

I hope I have been helpful, Joe.
