Florence Price Piano Music
on: June 22, 2013, 04:01:25 PM
Does anyone have a copy of african-american composer Florence Price's (1887-1953) Dances in the Cane breaks, particularly "Nimble Feet." It was published by Mills in 1953 but is long out of print.

All I could find was the orchestral version: https://www.williamgrantstill.com/worksfororchestra/item.nhtml?profile=worksfororchestra&UID=122&Direction=Next
Maybe you can either ask them if they have the piano score or you can buy the score and make a transcription.

I found "Nimble Feet" in volume III of William Chapman Nyaho's five volume set "Music of Africa and the African Diaspora" published by Oxford. Three other selections from the suite are to be found in other volumes. This is a very valuable collection for pianists of all technical ability. The compositions therein can be found nowhere else. William Chapman Nyaho is a highly respected concert artist with a website at nyaho.com . Otherwise I have found only one piece by Florence Price which is a piano sonata published by Schirmer. I haven't received it yet so don't know anything about the quality or difficulty.
