chromatic 6ths fingering
on: June 26, 2013, 03:55:14 PM
any ideas on the normal fingering for parallel sixths in chromatic motion? I've just started liszt's pensees des morts. it's mostly technically straightforward enough to sightread, but there are some horrible chromatic 6ths in the right hand. I like fingerings that join both voices, but the style of fingering thirds that the chopin used (ie. 1 and 2 at the bottom with occasional slides and 45 at the top with 3 alongside pairs of white keys) doesn't work as easily as I'd hoped. do people use the same basic principle but occasionally have non-legato in the lower voice? or is there another type of fingering?

after experimenting, I found a very easy fingering to descend, instead of any 3s it involves sliding 25 to 25 on the two occasions where 2 black keys to two whites. unfortunately there's no equivalent for going up though, so I'm stuck on that one.
