Virtual accompanying?
on: June 28, 2013, 01:52:11 AM
How long until this is really there?

It's just faster computers and more bandwidth on the internet, isn't it?

I was just picturing it... Something like a church could actually work now.  Lag would still be an issue but if it's a situation where you don't have to hear the group/vocalist, don't have to play exactly with them.... That could actually work right now.

Otherwise, how long will it be?  We'll need a solid connection on both ends and all the way through.  The accompanist will need to be able to hear the soloist/group.  And each side will need to hear and adjust.  5ms on one side would be the other side adjust and 5ms for the signal to be sent back.

Interesting idea though. "Hey, I can't physically be there, but I could accompany you virtually if you needed it, if you can't get anything better."

And you'd need someone on the solo/group end to set up your connection and audio for that group.
