Can't understand the "ABRSM" grading system..
on: June 29, 2013, 07:20:36 PM
I live in Estonia(the northernmost Baltic country), and based on my research, the education system (at least in music) is quite different from other countries.
In normal education, after pre-school we have 9 grades, for ages 7-16(this might be the equivalent of the high-school). then, comes 3 years in the gymnasium(college equivalent maybe?) and after that university/any form of higher education institution. And the Musical education system is almost exactly the same. 7-9 grades depending on the music school, and the very few schools that offer the gymnasium education have 3-4 grades. so now i recently heard of this "ABRSM"(correct me if i wrote it the wrong way) grading system, which is apparently widely used around the world.
i'm 16 years old, and i just finished high-school(9th grade). in september i'll be in the 1st gymnasium year (i suppose i'd be called a sophomore then?) and i'll be in the same grade in my music school... but what would that mean in the ABRSM scale?
my repertoire(for the first half of the school-year) that my teacher gave me for the summer is:

Grieg - Wedding day at troldhaugen (from op. 65 lyrical pieces)
Mendelssohn - etude op. 104 no. 1 presto
Liszt - Etude op. 1 no. 8 Allegro con spirito
Shostakovich - Op. 87 prelude and fugue no. 1
Haydn - Sonata no. 30 (Hob. XVI/19) first part - moderato

i'd be very glad if you could help me with this.
