Can someone help me with sheet music?
on: July 01, 2013, 06:27:47 PM
I just started learning sheet music a week ago and am currently at children nursery rhyme level. But there's a song I really like, and I managed to find sheet music for it.It's too complicated to read for a beginner. I have a sheet music book but some of the symbols used in this sheet are not there in the book. I'm mostly having trouble with the second line  https://gyakusheets.houjun.com/downloads/sheets/pwaajfa/background/Reminiscence%20~%20Tonosaman%20Ballad.pdf    That's the sheet music
That's the piece. Can someone please explain what's going on in the second line? And also what does it mean when the notes are completely above or below the lines?

The sheet you have linked to is somewhat ahead of you in terms of reading, and rather more in terms of playing. I suggest you stick with the course you are on and you'll be able to read it yourself sooner than you think. The way these things are taught is done for a reason, and you've only been at it for a week.

Notes above the staff lines are just higher notes., and the other notations in the second line will become clear if you just stick with the course you are on.

Assuming that you can identify (know the names of and can find on the keyboard) the notes on both the treble and bass staves (which are connected by a bracket and which together make up the grand staff), there is one line between the treble staff and the bass staff, and that note is middle c.  Then the first notes in the first measure bass staff are c (second space from the bottom,g (top space), and the next 3 notes are the same as the treble staff: d, e-flat, and g. Does that answer your second question? And what was the first question about what's going on in the second "line"? And by "line" do you mean measures 5 through 9, or the base staff of measures 1 through 4?

Music notation is very logical, but there are many details to learn. Beginners usually do best with a teacher.
