Aram Khatchaturian
on: November 02, 2004, 08:51:18 PM
Has anyone played any of his piano stuff? I was thinking about ordering his piano concerto on sheet music - it's one of the best concerts I've ever heard.
But it seems like he didn't write very much for piano. There's a sonatina, a toccata, an album for the young people and a few other things... not a lot. Is any of it good? I've heard some parts of the toccata which I liked, but other than that I've only heard the concerto, and a rhapsody for piano and orchestra.

Does anyone know more about some other Armenian composers? I heard some things by another composer - don't remember his name - which sounded good too.

Do his Sonatina and Toccata...sorry I can't remember the Op # but the toccata has a very distinct and very multilayered beat.  I'll have to try to find it out.

Wasn't he the one with the beautiful organ symphony? I love that piece.

khachaturian is the bomb!!! i love his works. i've played his sonatina and toccata and have loved them both, they're incredibly fun to play, especially with they're contrasting sections and lack of normal structure. the sonatina is bril it's one of my fave pieces. i don't know of any other armenian composers, though i should...

Ludwig, I don't think he did an organ symphony. The only famous organ symphony I know is saint-saens third... Which sounds completely different than Khatchaturians music.

Yes, I was thinking off the Saint-Saens. Khatchaturian wrote one too, but it was much different.

Thank you,
