can someone explain what the term 'rinforz.' actually means and its function in interpretation, thanks.

full term is rinforzando, literally it means "re-inforcing" - musically its an increased accentuation of the marked notes/phrase... reinforcing the musical significance of the note or line within the overall interpretation.

It's an abbreviation of rinforzfando. It means to play with a (sudden or immediate) increase in force or emphasis, usually until otherwise directed.
