Debussy: Pour Le Piano pedaling
on: July 25, 2013, 03:59:01 PM
Greetings friends,

As my summer is slowly coming to an end, I've finally gotten my act together and started working on this semester's pieces, one of which is the prelude in "Pour le Piano." I gotta say I really dig it.

My first problem that I ran into almost right away is the pedaling that starts 6 measures in. There is a low A in the bass that you can't hold on to throughout the section so I figured the only option is for the pedal, and that seems to be what I've heard on recordings.

So, when it comes to the pedaling, do I hold it through the entire section until I re-articulate or do I release it slightly with every group of 16th notes?

I just need to make sure its absolutely stylistically correct or my teacher will talk to me sternly and indirectly lower my self worth.

Thanks for any help!!

It's "absolutely stylistically correct" if it works. Play around with your options, listen to recordings, and above all use your ears.
