on: July 26, 2013, 11:14:14 PM
A newly unearthed recording from a concert presented a few years back by the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

Joanne Ludbrook, 'cello; yours truly, piano.

Comments welcome.

Bravo!

Very moving. Some fine work here indeed!

My only critical thoughts were that, as a cellist myself, I would have liked to play the main theme up the octave on the A-string the second time it comes (somewhere in the middle?), rather than in the same octave as we heard it the first time. It sounds mellower, more introverted in the lower register, on the G and D strings. Up on the A with some juicy vibrato it would so so expressive-perhaps on the 2nd time this would be a good idea, no?

Thanks for sharing, I really appreciate it!

Hi Glenn,

I was not previously familiar with this composer and his sonata, but thoroughly enjoyed hearing it.  It's an excellent collaboration. Thanks for posting your recording.

Thanks for your kind words, David. There is a piano trio, too, performed by the Lytle/Lewis/Glyde trio.

Vanstrum (1952-). American. Born in Minnesota.
