Bach Fugue from E-minor Toccata
on: July 28, 2013, 01:11:27 PM
Hi All,

I have tried Bach's E-minor toccata and loved especially the fugue.
So here it is, recorded on my home piano.
Enjoy.

Bravo!

You know this fugue well and play it with confidence and bold rhythmic stability!

I enjoyed your dynamics, articulations, and overall vision. Very precise playing-note lengths, rests, etc. Wonderful work! I love how you slow down just a hair to emphasize the recapitulation near the end. Great ending-one of the most fun things to play ever, eh?

I enjoyed this a great deal and found it to be a more musical performance than the Chopin. You could have even more control of the space in between the notes, but that will come!

Thank you Awesom_o_ for your complements.

After reading your comments on my playing I feel that you are like a virtual teacher for me.
Do you teach ?

Of course, it's my livelihood. I can give lessons on Skype if you do not happen to live in the Greater Toronto Area.

Have you studied the rest of the E minor Toccata?

I live on the other side of the Earth, very far from Toronto.
I have studied the whole Em toccata.
It's just that I have been spending much more time on the Fugue than the first two parts.

I am curious about Skype lessons though.
Is it even possible to teach virtually ?
Is it effective ?

The Fugue is quite a challenge compared to the other movements, so that makes sense.

I have strong views on the subject of 'teaching'.

I believe there are no great teachers. Only great students of learning. I help my students to become better students of learning. I help them to better understand their own learning so that they can learn more, learn better, and learn deeper.

I do not 'teach' them in the traditional manner. Much of traditional pedagogy is flawed in my view, because it focuses on teaching the content rather than teaching the underlying thinking and doing skills.
