Any surfers around here?
on: July 29, 2013, 02:01:34 AM
I just went surfing for my first time today!!!

It was sooo fun!!!

I died a couple times but that's okay!!!

I'm gonna be sore tomorrow,

Do any of you surf?

What's the biggest wave you caught?

I'm thinking of getting a leash once I can buy a surfboard.  If I buy one, it'll take me to shore right?  Well what if the wave is crashing so hard that I'm being pulled down to the bottom?

Board, boogie or body?

The three I mentioned are all types of surfing, and rather different.

I do (or at least have done) boogie boarding and body surfing. Not board surfing.

That's like saying longboarding, skateboarding, and waveboading are the same thing.

I wasn't saying they were the same thing, just that they could all be called "surfing". I was seeking clarification of which of them you had done.

It seems to require very little in the way of trying.

You still haven't answered the question, though.

How are we supposed to get on this forum -without- surfing?

A leash is to stop the board and you getting separated. It won't take you to shore.  If you get pulled to the bottom, either the board will be pulled along, or it will hold you up. Being held up by a rope upside down under water is, I believe, just as much fun as it sounds.

I used to surf! But now...after so many ear surgeries, I cannot have any fun with water. I live in freaking Texas and you should see my face!! I just dyed my hair darker and I look like a vampire because my face is extra pale. I like it, but I really miss surfing. Especially since I am moving close to the coast...

Tried it once about 10 years ago in Cornwall, the most exhausting thing I've ever done in my life, I think I managed to stand up twice in about 2 hours, loved it though! The boards are huge! Rip tides sound rather terrifying though.
Currently learning:

Satie Je Te Veux            Rach C#m
Poulenc Bal Fantome       Chopin 28/20

Is the reason why you have so many ear surgeries because of surfing?

Because, I mean, if you get thrashed by a 30 foot wave, I'm sure that wouldn't be good for your ears right?  Can you wear earplugs or something?

The coast?!  Where?!

My ultimate goal is to move to SanFrancisco Cali.  I freaking LOVE it there!  But I have to deal with college first...

Yeah what the heck I didn't know it required that much stamina.  My entire upper body is kinda sore, but whatever.

Yeah I only managed to ride a full wave once, and stood on it only two more times.

Dude I got caught in one what the heck!!!  I thought I was gonna die!!!  I was like 'NOOOOOO I can't die!!!  I haven't met Valentina Lisitsa and ended the world yet!!!  NOOOO' but then I was like, 'Alright man, go hard or go home!' then I was like 'oh yeah!  You either drink all the water or swim to the side' and then I swam to the side and I was like 'WOOOOOO I am invincible!!!' and then I got tired and went home... :(

Where in Texas? My brother's moving to Austin in a couple months, he's pretty excited.

Haha that's where my other brother lives. I'm flying to visit him over labor day weekend. SF is awesome, yep. Might try to get a job there after college, but I'm also a pretty big fan of Minnesota

And no, I don't surf. Don't really live anywhere I could.

@rach4 Yes, a lot of the problems I am having are because of water. So be safe. Ultimately, it is not safe to wear earplugs in rough waters. There is nothing louder than when an ear plug that is inside your ear and when it gets hit by something! Ouch!

I am moving near south padre isand

@david

I used to live right near Austin! :)
