Need parts!
on: July 29, 2013, 06:02:53 AM
Hello! Please help me, if you can.

I need replacement felts for the practice pedal on my yamaha console upright.

I have had it for just 3 months and I have worn through the practice felts between the hammers and the strings.   ;D

So, there is a bigger problem. Can I get thicker felt? I was also thinking about leaving the base lighter on the felt and the treble the highest thickness of felt, and highs in the middle in terms of thickness-in comparison with the bass and the treble.

Can anyone please point me in the direction where I can order practice felts for the yamaha, as well as any additional resources you could share? Thank you so much! Please forgive me for the strange use of english.  :)

The link at the bottom of the Yamaha Website Page linked here may be a good start.

I suspect it will only get you a new one of the same thickness, though what you learn from installing it may enable you to make your own next time.

Your piano tech/tuner may also be able to help.

There are no local piano techs. I can't even get a decent price on getting my restored chickering from 1936! :(

@jmenz, I will check the site out or just call the warranty people.

just saw this, easy fix, i reckon you can fix that youself, just a thick felt damper. The purpose of this is to damper the sound. The chepest way ;) is go to your local carpet shop and ask for "under felt" get some off cut - 5-10$ at the most, you ask for thicker/dense ones... And I am sure you can just cut and copy using the original felt length that was installed on the leaver. i hope this is another option for you. ;)

here you go https://www.andersens.com.au/main-menu/our-products/carpet-underlay a bit more understanding what  ;)is felt is made out of.

I'd like to just order piano felt, though! I don't want stuff coated in fiberglass or something weird.

It may be Muffler Rail cloth that you are looking for. Give these guys a call the number is at the link:  https://www.vandaking.com/piano-felt-leather.html
Depressing the pedal on an out of tune acoustic piano and playing does not result in tonal color control or add interest, it's called obnoxious.

I had to replace a section of this felt on my Kawai upright.  I bought felt at a local sewing supply shop. Simple and inexpensive.
