Tchaikovsky-Pletnev - Dance of the sugar plum fairy
on: August 03, 2013, 04:34:28 PM
I would like to learn to play the piece but am not sure how to play.  The piece has three staves with two in treble clefs and one in the bass clef.

Any advice is appreciated.  Thanks!

I take it you've never encountered a piece written on more that 2 staves before.

I personally think composers who use them should be taken out the back and shot, but some people find them useful.

Basically, you need to play all the notes written. How you distribute them between the hands depends on  where they most comfortably/easily/possibly fall. In that regard, the treble/bass thing is irrelevant.

I concur with J_menz, so why not find another version that has the staves synthesized in two?

Actually, Pletnev does not write it like this to make it more complicated; I would say quite the reverse!

@ senanserat:

Other versions are not the real deal if you listen to Pletnev's talented transcription. ;)

@ chupachups:

Go to YouTube and see how different pianists play this piece, how they distribute the parts between the hands. Random example:
