Ave Marie - Need help, reading this chord.
on: August 03, 2013, 08:20:10 PM
hello.

new to the board. i am currently trying to teach myself Ave Maria (OP.52, No. 6), but a section of the music has me confused.

if the signature staff shows, "e" sharp, but the 2nd chord indicates a natural "e", yet chord is repeated again, but without the natural indicator, is it played in sharp or natural?

appreciate any assistance. thank you in advance!

General rule: any accidental (a change from sharp to natural or flat to natural, or the other way around) continues until the end of the measure unless it is cancelled.

If the altered note is tied over a measure, the accidental still holds -- for that note, but not subsequent ones in that next measure (in general: publishers sometimes get lazy on that one, but it's usually pretty obvious).
