[video] Comptine d'un autre été - l'après midi (Yann Tiersen)
on: August 04, 2013, 06:55:54 PM
Hello there,
I've studied music during 2 years when I was a child. Now I am learning piano since one month. I started with a sound that I love: Comptine d'un autre été.
So here my first video:
I would love to get feedback. My next piece to learn will be probably summer 78 (still Yann Tiersen), but if you have any kind of suggestion I would be happy
Cheers !
Randy Le Chien.

For one month you're doing pretty good. The only section you really seem to have trouble with is the ending with the 16ths. I remember I had a lot of trouble when I played this aswell.
Anyway, here's the way you play it (kind of) vs the correct one (with exaggerated accents):
Also, you have some wrong notes at the end of each measure throughout the ending section. I don't know if that's because you're uncertain about the rhythm or if you learned wrong notes. In any case you should look at the sheet music and sort it out.
Some other general tips:
- The first few bars of the piece you play the right hand 16ths (the da-da-dam, da-da-dam..I hope you know what I mean
) too fast and the notes sound almost like short trills. Don't rush through them. Also, you have to put a little accent on the last note of each of those 3-note group, since the last note is on the beat.
- Play the right hand louder in general, so that the melody comes out. The way you play it, it is being drowned by the left hand. When playing chords, play the highest note the loudest, again to bring out the melody.
- Play the left hand less loud after the opening. It repeats throughout the entire piece, so it isn't that interesting.
And, the most general, yet most important tip: get a teacher (if you decide to stick with piano playing)
Btw, Summer 78 is pretty hard for beginners, because it has a difficult left hand with a sixth and fifth alternating throughout the whole piece, which will make your hand tense up and can in turn cause harm. If you want to play summer 78, you should definitely learn it with a teacher.

Hello mike,
Thank you a million for this amazing reply. I was no expecting so much detailed feedback.
You are right, the section you've pointed is a pain in the ass for me. Actually I am on it since 3 weeks without serious improvements. Despite all my efforts I am totally unable to play it well.
About Summer 78 I am almost done (at least I know the whole sheet and I am able to "play" it at 75% of speed). I really love this song and for me it is really easier to learn this one compared to"comptine d'un autre été". I think I will post a video within 48 hours to show you what I have been able to do.
I think I am falling in Love with Piano, if within one month or two this love persists I will definitively take a teacher.
Thank you again for your comments, I have printed them and I will redo all the work accordingly.
Best regards.
