ARCT Exam
on: August 08, 2013, 04:07:05 AM
Hi Everybody,
I'm new to all this so excuse my mistakes.  ;)

My ARCT exam with RCM (Royal Conservatory of Music, Canada) is nearing and I am SO, SO, SO nervous.  :-\
For my exam, I'm playing...
....List A - Partita #1 in Bb Major, Bach (Prelude, Sarabande, Gigue)
....List B - Moonlight Sonata, Beethoven
....List C - Fantasie Impromptu, Chopin
....List D - Sunken Cathedral, Debussy
....List E - Sonatina, Bartok

All my pieces are almost ready to go but I am still nervous because I'm afraid I might have a memory slip or forgot all the technique and skills I need to play those pieces well.
Can anyone give me any tips on performance etiquette or ways to impress the examiners?
Or maybe some tips on how to play the songs better?

Pathetique - Beethoven
Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 - Liszt
Toccata - Bowen
Warrior/Memories in an Ancient Garden - Louie

Call them "pieces", not "songs" for a start.

As to the actual performances, why not post a recording in the Audition Room of all or some of them? That way people here can give specific feedback.

Hi,
Right, sorry, force of habit from when I was 7. :)

Great idea. Thanks.

And don't think of how you will screw up, but think of how well you'll play.

If you think that you will screw up, you will. If you think that they are there to listen to you, and to enjoy, it will take of some pressure. And if there is a good jury, they wont care if you make mistakes. To not make music without mistakes is far worse than making music with a few mistakes...
