At the rate that everything is on TV or streaming we may never have the pleasure of sitting outside on a balmy August night watching a meteor shower. I remember that experience, fondly.

It's time to go outside and check it out!

Perseid meteor shower... Or just a black screen/joke by NASA? (With some crappy music.)

True.  Nothing like seeing one live.  See one here and it's... Hey!  There was a streak on the screen for a second.

This is somewhat interesting.... Don't have to wait around this way... But that leaves out the excitement too...

To get the full effect live you need a dark sky. These days it's very difficult to find a spot that is free of light pollution.

Agreed.  BOOOOOOO to supposed meteor showers anymore.  They never seem to be what they are supposed to be.  I want my money back!  ;D

"Oh, there will be hundreds" they say.

"The sky is falling" they say.

"This is sooo special and rare" they say.

"BOOOOOOO" I say!

I saw a nice one out of the corner of my eye a few years ago.  Walked out of a building.  Clear sky.  Giant streak across the sky for an instant.  Fast and silent.

Meteor watching provide food for mosquitoes.

Well, I've definitely seen some super amazing shooting stars.  No complaints there!  I've even seen a meteor that never burned out and looked as though it were flying horizontally across the sky ... and was seen even a couple of hundred miles North of here.  It was giant and broke apart a little bit in the sky as I watched it.  And then some pretty cool regular shooting stars, too.  The other night we saw something a little suspicious ... but this is the wrong thread for that  :)  A meteor shower though has never proved to be anything out of the ordinary night sky for me.

You are lucky to live where you do because for the rest of us it's either a cloud cover or excessive light pollution that prevents us from seeing anything. I would need to drive an hour to get a view of the sky like you have.
