An rhythm issue with Prokofiev's Montagues and Capulets
on: August 15, 2013, 07:59:26 AM
Not sure if anyone is familiar with this piece but I'm having difficulty starting in measures 19/20 where the polyrhythm begins. I've dealt with these before in Chopin and didn't have too much trouble, but this is really aggravating. I seems like I should be able to just feel it but my RH wants to follow the LH rhythm.
I've tried slowing it down and segmenting it but when I try to speed back up the problem reappears. Any ideas or tips would be appreciated. I feel like I can get through this piece fairly quickly if I can just pass this roadblock.
Here is the piece at approx :49 where my troubles begin

Well after about half an hour of work on this it finally clicked. I wish I at least had some insight to offer so this thread wouldn't be useless but it simply fell into place. I suppose it was more listening to what DIDN'T work and eliminating that until all that was left sounded good, haha.
I wonder if that would happen eventually with the Fantasie Impromptu polyrhythm that I couldn't get past awhile back? Seems like a tougher nut to crack, though, and I'm just wrapping up my first year at the piano so maybe I should hold off.
