Last measures of Granados Spanish Dance no 3
on: August 15, 2013, 07:31:19 PM
Hello everyone,

I am having difficulty getting the second measure of this image up to speed. Hands separate are no problem, but when I try to join the hands I can't look at both hands and I mess up.

How should I practice this? And would you play all the octaves with fingers 1 and 5?

Kind regards,
Steven

Practice slowly with eyes closed.  Use your tactile sense to locate the keys.  Be attentive to what the intervalic distances between hands and between pitches feels like while your eyes are closed.  Again use your tactile sense to help you.

When playing at normal speed with eyes open, look at the inner thumbs.  They are closer together, and it is easier to catch both of them within a single field of view.

Thanks for your reply! I will try to practice slowly eyes closed.

Would you suggest playing all the octaves with fingers 1-5 or alternate between 1-5 and 1-4?

I'd play 1-5 for all of them.  But you should use whatever fingering works for you.
