NYU Audition PANIC
on: November 06, 2004, 12:02:01 AM
hullo!  On, November 21st I need to audition for the NYU Music Education program.  They want 3 contrasting pieces, one in the jazz style.  the stuff i can definately have ready in 3 weeks is kind of limited because i've been working a lot lately.  It is a fast open audition.  an in-and-out kind of thing.

i know i am playing the third Gershwin Prelude.
and i want to do the Khatchaturian Tocatta because I can play that so good, things start flying around the room.
and for the third piece......I don't know.  nobody wants to hear the Moonlight Sonata.  they probably heard it a million times.  A Bach Invention or something?  Chopin is too late, with those 2 20th century pieces.

I don't know.  I am having a panic attack because it is so soon and I didn't really want to audition there anyway, because it is going to be such an expensive school.  But.....for Music Education majors are they expecting as much as for a performance major?

help me please.

If you really don't feel comfortable with that school, then why invest your time, money and energy there?  Plus its already November 5th as of today, leaving you with a little more than 2 weeks to get something from scratch into the finest performance mode.  I'd hate to say it, but if you do choose a third piece this late, it's a recipe for disaster.

I don't know your ability to speed and catch up on repertoire, especially given the time constraints.  I'd recommend you forget this one and either enter the next one or another institution.  That's my two cents.
