Practicing the left hand
on: August 30, 2013, 07:38:41 PM
Hi all,
I started playing keybord 6 months ago using videos and lessons from the internet.
One tip I did not take seriously at the begining was practicing hands separate. When I got the hang of doing hands together, I'd even forget how to do it separately. I've recently found I was wrong, practicing hands separate helps a lot to improve performance, even after playing hand together in an ok level.
My problem is that in some pieces (like Bach's Minuet in G major) the left hand does long pauses. There is some huge intervals between notes. It does not sound musical to me when I play it alone.
What should be my approach? Should I record myself playing with the right hand and then play with the left one along? Or should I try to play the right hand notes in my head? What do you usually do?
Thanks a lot.

You can alternate between hands.  In other words don't play the whole piece with just the right or left hand but switch back and forth as the mood and musicality takes you.

The recording idea might work too, never tried it.
