Chopin - Prelude Op. 28 No. 20 - "Funeral March"
on: September 05, 2013, 07:51:03 AM
Yesterday I recorded this version of the Chopin Prelude Op. 28 No. 20, and it would be great with some feedback:
https://soundcloud.com/knut-marius-sundt/chopin-prelude-op-28-no-20
I am self-taught, and been playing for a little more than two years, so I know I am not at the skill-level of many others that are posting on this forum. I don't see it to be a technically challenging piece (except for some big stretches), but as with all other Chopin pieces it is not trivial to get it "right", in terms of tempo, dynamics, emotions, etc.
I know it may be a bit too slow for some of you. I have heard it played in many different ways on spotify and youtube, but personally I like it a bit slowed down. Another thing I am guessing that people would comment on is that I should maybe try to make the contrasts in volume even more distinct by playing the piano/pianissimo parts even softer.
Thank you in advance for your constructive feedback!

Wow! I can't even explain how impressed I am.
Yes, it's a bit slow at some points in my opinion, and I also think you should finish with a bit more force, but those are all your personal choices.
But this is still one of the best preformances I've heard.
Most people who play this prelude usually just emphasize the top note's melody, but there is a great deal of voice leading in this piece, that most people don't pay attention to at all.
But you, my friend, made every note crystal clear, and helped showing all the different melodies the voices create, and not just the top one.
Also, you put so much richness and color into the harmony - amazing work!

Wow, that was way better feedback than I would ever dream of
Almost to the point where I had to consider if you were only trolling
But I choose to believe that you meant what you say, and I am truly grateful that you liked it so much!
