Looking for a new piece
on: September 09, 2013, 09:23:39 AM
Hello,
I am currently looking for a new piece to learn.
The last pieces that I played are Schuberts Klavierstück no.2, D 946, and the first movement of Schubert Sonata in A major, D 959. I am also Studying Schubert 4 hand piece "Lebensstürme".
Here is what I am thinking about:
- Beethoven Sonata no 17, Op. 31 no.2. (first movement)
- One of Liszt Liebesträume
- A Chopin Etude
I would be grateful for some advice.
I am looking for something that is more or less at the same level of the Schubert Sonata.
Thank you

If you have the ability to play stuff like that, i really don't see how you would have trouble finding stuff to play. There's a lot of good sh*t out there. My problem isn't finding pieces to play, I usually have too much on my plate lol! So I usually have to narrow it down to at most 4 pieces....
Anyways, I would go with a pretty under-appreciated composer: Anatoly Liadov
Study his Op 35 variations or his Op 51 variations. I think they're so beautiful, it pains me that I won't be able to play it for awhile. If you're not in the mood for large-scale works, study any of the rest of his piano works, they're all miniatures!
There's also Czerny, rhode varitions, Chopin Variation Brillantes, Mendelssohn Prelude and Fugue in EM/em, and Schubert's a minor Sonata no.16
That would probably keep you occupied for awhile hhe

Thank you! There are still so many pieces that I love that are way out of my league!
Can you recommend any good recording of Ljadov's piano works?
