*Plays ondine*

You are no loser for not practicing Mozart or Bach, quite the opposite!  And your teacher seems ok :)

You'll probably have to suck it up at some point if you want to graduate (especially since you won't be ending the world) but there's still time...

So you were expected to practice the Bach and Mozart for a week and you basically did one read through of each. Hardly surprising it didn't quite meet expectations.

You only have to accompany, not play every note.  Playing the top and bottom notes can skate a long way sometimes, esp. on a crappy piano.

Sightread it. If this is a first time thing, give it a couple of read throughs between now and the "performance".

There is not enough words to describe how bad I am at sightreading

Then you'd better get cracking on learning the pieces then.  And practice your sightreading so these little challenges aren't so big a deal in future.

And don't neglect your Bach and Mozart this week, either.

College is fun, ain't it?  :P

You'll get better.  It's trial by fire.  Good luck.

The accompanying isn't as important as your lesson work, although you might perform that more and for more people... You can cheat a little with the accompanying.  Leave notes out.  Play the chord but not in the same voicing.  Not a lot of people will care or even notice unless they know the piece really really well.

I'm picturing the downside of traditional piano lessons.

How many pieces did you used to work on vs. what you're working on now?

Makes me wonder about the balance of 'monster' pieces vs. lots of medium or easier pieces.

What's impossible?

For my lessons in college, I wondered what the point of the teacher was for some of it.  I would get a new piece, bring in what I could the next week.  The teacher would start talking about polishing it and interpretation when I'm just trying to play the notes. (If you tell them that, they'll get pissed off.  Meaning that you're just trying to get the notes down.)

hello, rachmaninoff__forever,

I'm new here in the forum and I hope you won't get mad and think I am insensitive, but I found your thread quite amusing.  I have never seen such LARGE FONTS used in a thread!

Anyway, while I was reading through it, the image that came into my mind was Luke Slywalker in the Return to Jedi, resisting the invitation of the evil emperor about joining the Dark Side, with his dad Darth Vader saying 'Son, it is useless to resist." ;)

However, you may just want to just go through it with the notion that "This, too shall pass" as every agonizing ordeal does.  You can also look at it at your "finest hour", and just think that when you reach a ripe old age of 50, you can tell your kids that you had this great fantastic horror story where you ended up the victor in a jiffy and laugh.   It may also be interesting to note that your current ordeal seems much longer in time as compared to the actual number of minutes you will be pressing on the keyboard. :D

when I was in high school we used to joke that college was just high school with ash trays. We all found out differently.
