Black

Can someone please enlighten me.
Why is the background of this website black? I'm not complaining!  :-X
But isn't it a little painful when transitioning from this to a "normal" white website after spending a long period of time here?

I do not know why it is chosen, but it is very good for my eyes :)
I do use a larger font though.

I like it, too, for my eyes.  Another reason may be that it is difficult (although doable) to cut and paste white text to other formats. This keeps our PS chatter more private. Or maybe not?

I like it.  Matches the piano a bit too, like a big black Steinway.

Easier to read too for me. White pages seem to blur into the text a little.

The tan part... Maybe that could be changed.  That would be an interesting feature if  the user could tailor their own color scheme.  Black with blue trim or red trim might be interesting.

Tan?  I think it's supposed to be brass, like on a piano.  I also prefer the black since it's not as bright.  Makes you wonder if paper books should be printed on black paper with white text since it's just easier on the eyes.  White is like staring deep into the sun; eventually, you'll burn your corneas out.  I only wish that when you reply to a post, the background is also black.  Instead, it's white with black text.

Go to the top of the page, hit the print button.

Magic!

Everything is now black font on white background, cut and paste is easy.

Or Bösendorfer! Yes, it does somehow call to mind the pianist's adaptation of to the famous old old Henry Ford quote to "you can have a piano any colo(u)r you like as long as it's black".

Anyway, one might wonder what our member Richard Black thinks about this...

Wow. As to that whole Henry Ford/black thing: it is true, isn't it, that black pianos just sound better?

Can't get white.  Imagine how scuffed up and dingy that would look like after a while.

Brown and wood are the only other colors that look ok to me, still staying within the "normal" range.  Clear ones are cool.

It can't detract from the music.  But it needs to look professional and classy too.  Hence, black.  Black goes anywhere.  Wood/brown has to be in the right place but can still look ok.

Elijah Wood must have done a movie with a piano.  I searched for wood grand piano and he kept popping up.

That gold piano is just gawdy.  It's got all the ornaments on it.  Shouting "look at me!"  And you couldn't flip around and take a nap on that bench.

I could almost see a silver piano working too if it were a dark silver, basically imitating black.

Gaudy? Nonsense. It just needs the right room.  ::)

I could not even imagine playing a white piano voluntarily...How do you see where the keyboard ends?? And those things are ugly as well...

Brown (or gray if they existed) would be best, since the black one looks horrible with all the fingerprints, dust and cat hair...but black is usually cheaper, I don't think I'd pay much extra for the wood colour.
