Mono recordings better than stereo!
on: November 08, 2004, 12:13:25 AM
Hi everyone! Been quite some time since my last post!
Anyway, I've been listening to lots of recordings off late and for some reason I've found that mono recordings sound much better and pianistic than the stereo. I found them sounding sweeter and more natural. Do u people feel it sometimes?? Just wondering!

I may agree on this if by mono you mean on those old recording devices and stereo you mean digital, then maybe.
If no, then I think on stereo playback devices, you can turn off the stereo and only hear it in mono.
Is this what you mean?

Old recording devices were actually quite sophisticated than digital when it was created. Digital was far inferior then. I'm sure technology has advanced beyond the old technology.
Sound-wise, I think there is more "junk" noise in those old recording devices so it adds to the timbre of the piano whether or not the piano actually made the sound. And digital recordings of the old mono recordings are usually digitally enhanced and the sound sounds like there is less, like something is missing. They remove the static and all those other things that they don't think should be there and it ends up sounding bland and not as crisp.
I've always wondered why the radio stations sound so much better than the CDs. They play on the same stereo yet it sounds so much more powerful than these plastic disks. Why is that?
