Hello
on: September 27, 2013, 09:14:48 PM
Good evening.

I just happened to find this forum.  At the tender "young" age of forty-four, I have decided to take up both guitar and piano.  I took a year of piano in elementary school and I've always regretted not going beyond that.

I look forward to learning a lot here.

And welcome aboard.  You will indeed learn a lot here -- I certainly have.  There are some very good people on here (also some very good humourists...)

Welcome. You will find that there are many here in your age and your situation. Like me.  ;D

I'm 47 and I consider myself rather young. It's now two years since I decided to take up piano playing again, and one year since I started to get things moving for real.

Welcome, I too am a returnee and been here now for about 16 months. You will find a bunch of us here as has already been mentioned, that have returned to piano from far too much time away. I've learned a lot too and offered quite a bit here and there as well.

I've learned to find added happiness and or fulfillment/satisfaction in a whole different genre of music to me.
I have found two modern day composers who's work I enjoy having in my repertoire. One I learned about here at PS.
I've learned that digital pianos can in deed be handy and entertaining devices.
I've found a whole love in tone that is present in the Kawai RX series grand pianos, especially the RX-7 ( no I don't own one, I still have my 1898 Miller grand I've owned for 30 years now).

You will find that people from all walks of life and from just about all corners of the earth enjoy learning piano and music in general and we rub elbows with them right here at PS. I think our youngest member at one point was 13yo and the oldest announced being in his 90's sometime last winter !

So come often, enjoy !
Depressing the pedal on an out of tune acoustic piano and playing does not result in tonal color control or add interest, it's called obnoxious.

Thank you all for your kind and encouraging replies.  I am looking at finding a good, compact digital keyboard (I reside in a small apartment so even the smallest upright is out of the question) and plan on learning both online and taking some courses at my local community college.

My main goals (for piano and guitar) are to be able to play songs for my "babies," to be able to possibly play part-time one day, and even to compose my own songs.  I am really excited about this journey.
