A final word from pianostreet members...?
on: September 28, 2013, 05:33:31 AM
With 8 days left to a competition, I had a recital last night, and another coming up today. Both are somewhat informal events, I played a whole set of encores yesterday and will do the same today. For those that would bother to listen, any words of wisdom that I could have use of are much appreciated. Bear in mind, this concert was done without a break (I've just edited out some talking I did - quite a bit actually - between some pieces), I gradually got a bit more tired, and in the competition next week, I'm playing two rounds of 30 min each per day, and won't need to perform the ENTIRE program in one go.

Edited out the Beethoven sonata op 78 for now, first movement was unnecessarily rushed.

Link to 2nd half (except Beethoven sonata): Szymanowski - Nausicaa, Medtner op 26 nr 3, Rameau les tendres plaintes, Couperin Les barricades mysterieuses, Debussy etudes for thirds, octaves and 8 fingers:

Well done!

I think the Couperin could benefit from slightly more attention to the left hand in general, and a bit more work on the final section of the rondo, before the A section returns for the last time. The really tricky one ;)

Beautiful playing. Best of luck in the competition!

I"m at work and can't listen to your latest postings, but I have listened to your playing many times before. Relax. You are a superb pianist and have enormous abilities. Let the music breathe and keep breathing yourself, and there is no doubt you will play with talent and grace.

All best,

Glenn

Apart from the exaggeratedly nice words ( :P ), what you said is of course more or less the main piece of advice I need to take in. Certain things were still rushed in last nights concert - today I had another gig, and things were already settling, and felt more relaxed. One week is hopefully enough to fix this.

And awesom_o - thanks for the comments on Couperin! I remember that bit before the last A section (especially the very end of it) being not perfect - it's easy to forget how the bass line moves, and how the harmonies move according to that. A very "simple" piece but still, there are spots that are harder to memorize than they look!

Dear Fnork, finally got a chance to listen. Bravo. A fine combination of technique and feeling. I especially liked the Lindberg encore, strange yet beautiful. Also the Ravel and the Couperin. I'm guessing you won. If not, you should still be proud. You are an amazing artist, without a doubt.
