Piano Curfew
on: October 06, 2013, 08:55:56 PM
So I know most of the pianists here live with friends/family members, and I suspect that most of these friends/family members don't appreciate repetitive, loud, piano practicing resonating in their bedrooms into ungodly hours of the night.  I am curious to know:  When do you get cut off?  My parents stop me at 11 pm.

What does age have to do with it?  Just go out and buy a house with a room big enough to fit a piano in it.  Ask your parents for the money.

But if I could practice past 11 I would have a better chance of being a successful musician who earns enough to buy a house...

Bwahahahaa!!!
You'd have to be really insanely good looking for that to happen.  And a woman.

It wouldn't get me a house near where I live.
But out more towards the country I'm sure I could rent one for around that much a year.
I dunno, I'm probably wrong.

My ideal home is semi large.
One bedroom with closet
1 bathroom
1 kitchen.
Then the rest is acoustically perfect and a late room with 3 pianos in it
A Steinway, a Fazioli and a Bosendorfer

But I'd have to be hella rich to handle that

I know plenty of fine musicians with lovely houses.

i'm pretty sure yohan kwon plays well into the night (2 AM+). Before a couple roommates moved in, I would practice to about 1, but now try not to play past 11.

Get a digital piano and a set of headphones. If your parents bought you a Steinway they'd probably be loaded enough to buy you a 2000 euros Yamaha just to shut you up...

Why'd you get bitter?

We bought the Steinway from a doctor in the area who had no idea how much it was worth so we got a hell of a deal.
