Beethoven - Waldstein 1st VS. Moonlight 3rd
on: October 08, 2013, 11:38:26 PM
This is just a curiosity that I've had recently. I can play (with many mistakes - I still need a lot of study) the 1st from Waldstein, and I was thinking about what "level" would be the 3rd from Moonlight, "Presto agitato", compared to "Allegro con brio"...
Which one do you think is harder technically and musically?
It's just a curiosity!
(Sorry about my English)
Thanks in advance!

waldstein, no question, both musically and technically. just as a comparison, i started moonlight(mvmt 3) at age 10, and waldstein(mvmt 1) at 13.

DARN it, srry i voted Moonlight, for some reason i was thinking Apassionata movement 3. But ya, the waldstein is MUCHCHCHC harder than moonlight for sure

Thanks for the feedback!
I've studied both of these movements but can't play them correctly yet... I hope I get some improvement.

Again, why compare the two pieces! You are comparing apples to oranges!
Of course it is the Waldstein that surpasses the Moonlight. No doubt about that. The Waldstein is perhaps one of Beethoven's most difficult sonatas. This is a piece pianists play for major competitions as well as for their Carnegie Hall debuts. Very challenging.
Additionally, always learn a whole sonata, and never leave out any movements.
