Kawai rx7 for sale
on: October 09, 2013, 02:32:38 AM
I'm looking to sell my Kawai rx7 Blak series grand piano , needing to down size to a smaller piano . Piano was purchased new in 2010, only three years old. Piano is located in central NJ and is in mint new condition. Comes with a 10 year fully transferable warranty from Kawai and a matching artist bench .

I think a good asking price is $38,000 minimum, $42,000 maximum.
Unless pianos depreciate a lot more nowadays.

Why the RX-7 in the first place?

Talked to a kawai dealer today and asked them what they thought is a fair asking price for my rx7. They said a fair market price would be in the neighborhood of 28k any higher than that may take longer to sell. Asked them also what new rx7's are going for and they hem and haw and don't really want to throw a number at you unless your in the market to buy one. From what I could get from them is that retail is over 40k .So I guess if I can get in the neighborhood of 28k for mine I'll let her go. Needing to down size since retired.. Thanks for your response,, Gary

It does retail for over 40K, specifically $47,762.  It's also a piano, not a car.  The dealer you talked to is pretending to be a used car salesman.

Another consideration is that the Kawai Blak RX series has now been superseded by the GX series. This will have an impact on the selling price of a used RX piano as dealers are already discounting new RX pianos to make way for the GX grands.

The RX7 piano in question is only 3 years old, but much depends on how well it is has been maintained, played and kept during those crucial settling in years.

Regards,

Robert.

Does the GX feel that much better?  The RX had a great action, better than Fazioli.  It was on the slightly heavy side, though, but was still capable of out-repeating the most expensive pianos.  They really need piano action design competition to improve the action of pianos.

I cannot imagine e GX being much more superior to the RX unless they are putting more hours into QC in line w the Shigeru line treatment ( probably one of the finest pianos in the world) .  I have played those RX and Shigeru, that carbon fiber millennium ii action is slinky, one of the best and smoothest and sensitive touch responses I have ever felt, you can really vary ten quality and projection even in the softest dynamics,

Pianos have not held their values terribly well since 2009.  If you don't have to sell I would recommend you don't until the housing market recovers as the piano market is directly tied to the housing market.  This country lost 50% of it's piano dealers since the crash of '08, so their is still a bigger supply out their than demand.  At least you've got a sweet instrument which will help the situation.

That said, for comp prices I would check out pianomart.com  That'll give you an idea of what people are "asking" for.
