Hallo guys,

Do you know some good documentaries about piano, music, orchestra, music history, music theory, or about famous composers?

Share them with us, so we can watch them and gain knowledge about music in general.

Thanks in advance!

The two by Ken Russell on Elgar and Delius are very good and are now on youtube. Also on youtube is an excellent two part reminiscence by Eric Fenby about his time with Delius. Then there is the three part film, "The Unknown Warrior", containing discussions with Havergal Brian in his nineties and some very interesting musical insights. This too is on youtube.

Howard Goodall's Big Bangs is excellent. I don't think it's on YT and the DVDs are pricey, though.

Labrande & Sturrock's The Art of the Piano: Great Pianists of the Twentieth Century is well worth a look.

some documentaries on YT that are decent:

The Harvest of Sorrow (Rach)

The Vital Juices are Russian (Ashkenazy )

The Gift of Music (Kissin)

Imagine: Being a concert pianist (general)

There is also 4-part video on Gaspard with Pogorelich and his wife/teacher that is interesting

KET.org has a documentary "300 years of the piano" by a local college professor that is educational and fun.  It is not archived, but when they are showing it on the Kentucky channel, which is pretty often, it is also streamed over the internet.  Check programs A-Z on their website for times and dates.

Indeed, but the series he did on the organ was pure genius.
