I need advice on what tempo to play songs
on: November 07, 2013, 10:18:40 PM
1. Adagio from Three Early Pieces - Cesar Franck

In the beginning of the piece is suggest Eighth Note 80-90, at bar 25 there's a mark "piu lento" does this mean I should slow the tempo and if so how much?

2. To A Wild Rose from "Woodland Sketches" - Edward MaxDowell

The tempo mark is "With simple tenderness", what tempo does this mean?

thanks!!

It's absolutely imperative that you slow down the tempo by exactly 13 metronome notches in that spot. In the MacDowell, "With simple tenderness" means to play the entire piece at precisely 78 to the quarter note.

;)

On a more serious note.... you really need to use your imagination and sense of feeling to answer these questions for yourself.

piu lento means a little more slowly. Use your discretion.

With simple tenderness is a mood, not a tempo indication. You get to pick the tempo you think best achieves the indicated mood.
