Scriabin Sonata Fantasy No.2 Op 19
on: November 10, 2013, 08:13:55 PM
Hi,
I'd love to play this amazing Sonata Fantasy, but I know that I'm not on the right level now.
(I'm just finishing the Rachmaninoff prelude and Schubert Klavierstucke and probably the next piece I'll pick up is Liszt Un Sospiro or Alkan's Etude Op.35 no.3.)
1) How difficult this sonata really is?
2) What to play before?
3) Which movement is better to start with?

1. very difficult; textually thick and a lot of weaving in the first movement
2. Try some other scriabin pieces: Preludes Op 11 No. 11, Op 11 No. 12, Op 13 No. 6 or Poeme Op 32 No. 1
3. just work from the beginning to end, saves yourself from getting bogged down in the 2nd movement if that happens.
it's still possible to play, but it will take a long time for you to perfect judging from your repertoire, so you should start off with some of his miniatures.
