Hello,
I'd like to buy a digital piano for Christmas as part of a desire to learn how to play. In January, I am going to start lessons at my university, but I want to have my own piano to practice and teach myself (if that's possible).

I'd like a digital piano that can connect to the computer - I've read about some programs (like Synthesia?) that can teach one how to play the piano if the piano can connect to the computer. I'd also prefer the piano to have the same amount of keys as a "real" (not sure if that's the right term...traditional?) piano would have.

My budget is probably for something at 500$ or less. I know that this budget won't buy me something fantastic (I've read lots of helpful posts on the forums regarding digital pianos for higher but few if any at this price range it seems), but I'm a student and just starting out, so I don't want to dive headfirst into a huge purchase until I feel that everything is working out well.

I'm somewhat limited on space, which is another reason why I want a digital piano. Something with a stand would be nice.

Can someone please help me purchase a piano that would fit these needs? Please let me know if I should provide more information. I really appreciate any help that you all can provide me.
