Yamaha U1 vs Victor (?)
on: November 13, 2004, 07:58:37 PM
Does anyone know Victor as a brand?
Today I was at a music shop to see some used/reconditioned Japan/Korea pianos
Basically they're used piano (15 or 20) that Yamaha gets back and restore them completely: the keys, the hammers, the strongs and the wood

I was a Yamaha U1 that seemed new and costed 3400€

The I saw also a Victor that seemed new and costed 2300€

Since this shop only sell Yamaha/Kaway products, he said that Victor is a piano made with Yamaha pieces but a sub-brand of Yamaha

He also told me that other piano that are Yamaha sub-brands are Toyo and Atlas
What do you think?
Is this a little suspicious?
I found nothing about Victor on the web

I don't know the Victor name, but this type of thing is not unusual. What sometimes happens is that a store chain will buy up a quantity of merchandise and put their own label on it.

Look inside the piano. If it is a Yamaha, it should say Yamaha on the frame. It may be quite a good deal.

Just speculation on my part --

Yamaha and Pearl River has a bit of a joint-venture going in China. The Victor's price point suggests it might be a Chinese piano. So I wonder if it's a private label piano made by the Pearl River using some Yamaha parts.

Word is that today the Chinese makers are making lots of pianos that lots of folks (dealers) can buy by the container loads, and they'll put on whatever name on the pianos that the delaers tell them to.
