Thinking of dropping the fan imp...
on: November 14, 2004, 01:18:05 AM
I think its time to well, take things both positively and realistically. 6 months, both hands work, but they suck.
It's too loud, not graceful, and would probably make Chopin roll all over in his coffin.
I guess I'll return to this after I do my Grade 10 RCM. I don't think I've developed the proper technique yet.

Sometimes that's the best thing to do.
Come back to it after a year or so and you might find yourself flying right through it with ease.

Ain't it great to look back a year in your piano studies? Passages that I now play like I was tying my shoes that used to take effort every single time to get right. I love that feeling, like you're just wiggling fingers. It feels the way great pianists make everything look.
Btw, I'd say drop the fan-impromptu altogether. Play the third impromptu, play anything else. #4 is so terribly overplayed.

I think if the notes are still in your head when you play it then its good enough. Don't worry about the dynamics of the peice or the touch. I think they develop once the memory is all out the way. Don't throw it away after 6 months, it would be better to keep it as an aside from your main study.

spatula i can totally relate to you i'm feeling exaclty theh same thing, except i have to play it in an exam on saturday and it's gonna suck and i feel really sorry with the examiners having to put up with me and the rest of the world who play this piece crappily. if i had known i'd end up disliking the piece so much i would've dropped it ages ago and played something else except i only decided this a few months ago and then it was too late. so by golly drop the damn piece and play something better!
