Need a Romantic piece
on: December 13, 2013, 01:28:16 AM
Hello,
I need a piece that would fit nicely with Beethovens Appasionata and Debussy's Estampes for an upcoming competition. I was thinking maybe Chopin op 9 no 2, but I didn't know if that is too overplayed or not. Any help would be appreciated.

If you want chopin I'd say Fantasy in F minor, Berceuse, Barcarolle, one of the Scherzos (I find the ballade a tad overplayed)...
But there's so much stuff. Schumann!! You could play one of his sonatas, one of his songs cycles... I particularly like Waldszenen and the Davidsbundlertanze (dunno how to spell it properly).
Or a russian, why not? You could maybe couple a Rachmaninoff prelude with an etude. Or do that with Scriabin. There's prokofiev... but that's already more modern I believe.
Frankly there's so much stuff, but if I were you I'd go with Schumann.
Good luck!  ;D
Chopin First Scherzo
Guarnieri Ponteios
Ravel Sonatine
Rachmaninoff Prelude op. 32 no. 10
Schumann Kinderszenen
Debussy Brouillards
Bach, Bach, Bach...

o please don't do opus 9 no 2.  Why not some Bach? for Chopin, any of his scherzi would work (2 being a bit overplayed) and any of the ballades besides for 1 (4 is a tough one to nail musically and emotionally, needless to say technically as well)

What would you think about op 48 no 1? That's a very emotional piece that's not too difficult.
