Carpal Tunnel rag (original, midi only)
on: December 15, 2013, 03:51:08 PM
So I guess it's long been time since I kept this piece to my own ears.

Out of an affection for ragtime piano, I created this 'rag' several months back. It's basically a technically demanding showpiece inspired by the virtuoso playing of famous ragtime/stride pianists during early jazz, hence the title (I couldn't think of other interesting terms apart from 'carpal tunnel'...).

Far from being a 'legit' pianist, I won't dare say a thing about performing this.  :( Lots of double notes and full chords. It's ONLY a midi file (personally, I find it a bit irritating to listen to).

What do you think? Comments please. THANKS!  ;D
(braces ones self for 'melodically dry!' or 'too flashy!' bashings  :-X )

NOTE: Please listen to the .mp3 file, it sounds better.
EDIT: Dammit. Those files took forever to load. Converted the .wav file to .mp3...

It really needs to be played by an actual human to get an idea :-) It does seem very demanding. I like the "saloon" atmosphere in the piece, but it could probably benefit from a little more variety, maybe throw in a slower phase in the middle (I am not expert with the genre though!).

Cheers and congrats for the work.

Thank you for the reply.  :) I agree that the tempo should be more varied at certain points in the composition.

Other comments?

If you want to give it better quality, use a soundfont for the MIDI. There's some with very good piano.
Per novitatem, artium est renascatur.

Finished with making music for quite a long time.
