These lights !!
on: December 18, 2013, 11:26:11 AM
Okay so my crush on yummy pianist aside, and the awesomeness of the performance ( by both) and video of it,  look at the lights under the music desk, what are those?! Is that an aftermarket desk or light set? Where can I get them? Is it a rare factory installs option ? Custom made just for that instrument?  Any info would be great!

I don't know if that's something off-the-shelf or custom made but an LED light strip would work equally well.

I must be too old but I'm not seeing lights. I see reflections from the blue surround of the stage that is reflecting off the high shine of the piano ( blue) but not lights. Am I looking at the wrong thing ?
Depressing the pedal on an out of tune acoustic piano and playing does not result in tonal color control or add interest, it's called obnoxious.

It's a light strip that is placed under the edge of the fallboard.  You can see that it adds a different color temperature on the keyboard than the stage lights.

Ah yes, I see that now. Thanks!

Several organs I've played have had a single tube fluourescent below the music desk.  You might take a look at a church organ or two and see if that gives you an idea.

Have a look at this, Ale:
https://www.amazon.com/Strip-light-Waterproof-Flexible-Light/dp/B005EHHLD8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1387486293&sr=8-1&keywords=led+stripstrip

Cut to size and has adhesive backing, though I wouldn't actually stick it to the fallboard.  You'll need a power driver connected to it which will adjust the voltage and make it work.  Choose a warm white, not a cool white, as warm white is the temperature of incandescents and won't look blue in comparison, like in the video.

thank you the hint I will consider and also run idea by my piano builder friend to see if he could custom fabricate something like that onto my fall board or music desk base.  :-)
