Liszt, Les Preludes, solo piano
on: February 28, 2003, 03:03:48 AM
Hello, I have been looking for the score for Liszt's OWN transcription of Les Preludes for solo piano, mistakenly attributed to one of his students Karl Klauser.  This transcription has not been officially accepted as Liszt's own, so it has not been included in the Neue Liszt-Ausgabe of Editio Musica Budapest.  It has been recorded by Leslie Howard as part of Hyperion's Complete Liszt Edition (vol. 38).  But where can I find the score?

Anyone?  Thanks,

David

You could ask Leslie Howard himself, at www.lesliehowardpianist.com.  I am sure he will answer you.

 Dear Mr. David:
According to the Grove Dictionary, there are two versions of Les Preludes: piano four-hands (B12) and two pianos (C11). I did check the "Doubtful works" entry, but there's nothing about it.
If there is not a new document, discovery or whatever that proves such a hypothesis, it is probably speculative.
Anyway, I listened to the record of Mr. Howard and it's quite amazing.  :)
 Best wishes!

Keep your eyes open for a new Cyprien Katsaris recording with the Matthew Cameron transcription of Les Preludes.  I have heard this trans, and it is much better in many ways than any of the previous transcriptions done.

Hello!
I just want to say something about Grove Dictionary.
Although LW-Catalogue covers more works of Liszt than Searle-Catalogue, there are many works of Liszt which are not listed in LW-Catalogue.
For instance, there is a music dictionary called MGG which is written in German.  In this dictionary there are more entries of Liszt's works than Grove Dictionary.  I'm not sure about Les Prelude, though..
