Chopin - Fantasie Impromptu
on: December 25, 2013, 02:01:56 AM
Hey everyone.
Decided to record Chopin's Impromptu No.4

I've played it for fun for the past 10 years but never actually worked at making it good.

The past 2 days I actually played some hands separately and it's still not perfect but I felt it was good enough for a little youtube video.

Nothing special as far as interpretation goes. Usually I feel like I have something new to bring to the table, but not this one.

Any suggestions and comments are welcome.

There are many good things, especially in the middle and at the end.

But you would really benefit from playing this through several times, without intentionally changing the interpretation, with your foot flat on the floor, not touching the pedal.

I loved the Horowitz touch in the middle with the arpeggio! Make sure you land on a Bb, not an Ab, though!  ;)

A couple of other small misreadings that you may or may not be aware of. Have a good look at the score.

I thought you did a really nice job on the last page, musically.

Thanks for the reply awesome_o.

I totally understand what you mean by using less pedal or non at all. Honestly, and you know this too, if I was more confident with my RH technique, I would be more willing to do this. Give me a month on practicing it in a technical manner. I rushed this recording a bit. But If I nailed it more technically, I'd have more "options" to play with interpretation.

I have heard the horowitz version and know exactly what you are talking about on the "downhill" arpeggio. It's beautiful!

Wrong notes? That's unacceptable. I'll take a good look!
