Dominican Republic for two weeks but no piano
on: January 13, 2014, 09:45:37 PM
So my mom says that she wants to take me to the DR for two weeks to visit some family and stuff.

But the thing is I'm not guaranteed a piano.

TWO WEEKS without a piano.

What do I do?

I feel like if I don't practice for two weeks then I'm gonna lose everything.  I haven't had this long of a break in ages.

What do I do.

Try practising in your head for 2 weeks and at the same time work on your interpretation of pieces since you're away from piano. I was overseas for a month and a bit and when i came back, all systems seemed in check, albeit a bit rusty. it's very hard to forget pieces, if you've committed yourself to investing in other types of memory apart from just muscle memory

Study your theory. Hell download a crappy piano app and do simple practice there with scores to study the text.

Use the two weeks to expand your listening.

Two weeks away from piano will not damage your progress.

What do I do.

Find a girl, have an affair and let her break your heart.

It'll improve your romantic repertoire more than any two weeks at the keyboard ever could.

Bring a keyboard with.

Ask what she's thinking if she (or you) are paying tuition and you're going to waste it like that. Maybe she'll chip in on a decent keyboard.

Or don't go.  You're old enough to decide.  It saves money on the plane ticket.

I will expand.  Do the listening on the flight there. Once there :
Rum
Babes
Beaches
Casino
Golf
Repeat in different orders over and over.  Spend as little time as possible in your accommodations. Get on plane. Listen to more on flight back. Arrive. Sleep. Practice.

At least I don't have to worry about running from the cops for skating.  I doubt they would care.

That the cops don't care about skating?  Nah bro, that's the kind of world we need to live in!

Besides, even if they did care, I could just bribe them.  You can bribe cops in pretty much any country except America.

There appears to be some truth in that, but I suggest you read this first.

You probably should also keep this handy.

You can bribe cops in pretty much any country except America.

And in a lot of them the result is the same or worse than doing so in America.

If you were skating, why would you run from the cops??. Would it not be quicker to skate from the cops??

You'll be able to play The Salty Sonata even better then  ;)

Just enjoy yourself in other ways, a break from the piano won't harm your pretty hands.

Don't Finns have some rather odd ideas about what constitutes "really nice weather" though? At least from the perspective of those of us from warmer climes.

Some people like winter sports, so I don't want to rob them the pleasure...that's why I let him make it -17C outside today, better dress up well...

And I personally don't like it hot in the summer...and do I like rain a lot. Don't think I could handle your weather...

A week in the mid 40s (oC) is character building. -17C is just madness - I'd never go out, I have no clothes warm enough.

Psssh quit being a whimp!

We had a -46.6C windchill the other day.  People are still out here in Chicago having cookouts in -17C.

It's was a nice 1C today, I was almost gonna go out sunbathing. 8)

You just take care of those hands! I dug out my old fur gloves on Monday when it was even colder...

We seldom have much wind when it's really cold, so it's not so bad. The dryness is the worst, it will kill the poor pianos if not moisturized all the time and it's not good for the skin either...
