Playing repeated chords quickly
on: January 16, 2014, 01:24:24 AM
Hi everyone,

I'm currently learning Czerny's Op. 365, No. 45. This is the only recording I could find of it:
. My question is how do you play the repeated chords so quickly (namely in the first 15 seconds or so). Is it all wrist action? If so, could some one explain it to me? Thank you in advance.

Shoulder, elbow, forearm, and wrist should all have no excess tension. However, you must have solid, firm fingers that won't buckle inward whenever you strike the keys, and your bridge (the knuckles where your fingers and hand connect) needs to also be strong and firm.

From there, yes, I primarily do it from the wrist. Although sometimes I might incorporate a longer arm gesture either slightly downward and/or outward, so it feels more like one bigger idea than each individual chord (that's a big part of it right there, too).
